Thurston Parish Council are looking for a Tree Warden, someone who has a passion for trees and can volunteer their time and knowledge to work with us to encourage a respect for, and to enhance the trees and hedges in our community.
Tree Wardens are local tree champions who plant, look after and stand up for the trees in their patch. Whether you want to get your hands in the earth and plant trees, raise awareness about trees to others, or simply be the eyes, ears and voice for the trees in Thurston, we want to hear from you.
What we would like a Tree Warden to do;
• Plant, protect and promote our local trees,
• Advise on suitable trees to plant and where they will thrive best,
• Arrange local tree planting days and follow up with pruning, watering and caring for local trees,
• Keep an eye on the protected trees in our village and advise us when planning applications affect our trees,
• Audit the trees in the area and contribute to our Action Plan for Biodiversity,
• Act as eyes and ears for problems that might exist with our trees and report these problems.
No professional experience in tree management is needed, just a love of trees and a few hours to spare. Training is available and there is support and a warm welcome from Suffolk Tree Warden Network and The Tree Council.
We don’t expect an expert but you must have a genuine love and respect for trees and the natural environment. If this role interests you please do get in touch. Contact Paula Gladwell (Deputy Parish Clerk) admin@thurstonparishcouncil.gov.uk
